Midsummer in Hethersett - The sun shone and there was plenty going on in the village over the past weekend. Friday night saw hundreds of people enjoy an open air picnic and concert at Old Hall School, Sunday saw the annual open gardens event and throughout the weekend there was a flower festival at St Remigius Church. In Memory of George - Leading environmentalist George Beckford, who died earlier this year, will be remembered in a special Music for a Summer's Evening event in St Remigius Church on Friday, 17th July, at 7.30 p.m. Poringland Singers will be providing music and song to celebrate George's life.

Club of the Year - Hethersett Athletic Football Club have been named Norfolk Football Association Charter Community Club of the Year and club secretary Mel Perkins is Norfolk FA's administrator of the year. Bumper Entry for Road Safety Competition - Over 200 entries were received for this year's children's road safety competition organised by Hethersett and Melton's Road Safety Committee. To read more click here
Coffee Morning Brings Hope - This year's annual coffee morning for the Hope and Homes for Children charity will take place at Marion Roberts Court in Mill Road on Wednesday 22nd July from 10 a.m until noon. This is a change of venue. "The coffee morning is something we always look forward to as it gives us a chance to meet supporters, friends and local people who support such a worthy cause," said local organiser Joan Green.
Quest Seekers Needed - Quest Seekers are needed for a special event at Hethersett Library on 30th July when youngsters will be asked to hunt for dragons. Stories, crafts and information will be available on dragons and the event is suitable for children aged five and over. It runs from 10 until 11.30 a.m. Children must be accompanied by and adult and further information is available from the library on 01603 810188.
Social Club Open Day - Hethersett Social Club in Queen's Road will be holding a special come and try it open day on Saturday (July 25th) from 10 a.m. The open house runs through until late evening. It includes a barbecue, knockout pool tournament, children's games, darts, snooker, a Charity Shield Bowls Tournament, a cake stall and a dog racing evening from 8 p.m. Entry is free to all and there is a special joining fee offer for new members of £10 for membership up to the end of January 2010. Hungry Caterpillar - The Very Hungry Caterpillar is 40 years old and Hethersett Library will be celebrating the birthday with a special event on August 1st from 10.30 until 11.30 a.m. The morning of stories and arts and crafts is suitable for children under the age of seven. Booking on 01603 810188 is essential and youngsters must be accompanied by an adult.
The Buildings of Islam - The buildings of Islam will be the subject of the Autumn course for Hethersett Workers' Educational Association. The 10 week course starts on September 24th and will include a wide range of famous buildings designed and constituted under the auspices of Islam including the Taj Mahal, the Alhambra Palace, the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.
