Hethersett Athletic Football Club

Hethersett Athletic Football Club began life as Hethersett Jubilee Football Club in 1991 when it was affiliated to Hethersett Jubilee Youth Club. It was the brainchild of present club secretary and treasurer Mel Perkins.

At that time the club consisted of just one boys youth team - at under-12 level.

The club changed its name to Hethersett Athletic when it went fully independent in 1995. At that time it was almost exclusively a youth set-up. By the turn of the century, however, the club was fielding no less than 11 sides covering all ages from eight upwards and providing soccer for both sexes.

With so many teams to run, numerous pitches throughout the village were utilised. These included the Memorial Playing Field as well as the high and middle schools and Old Hall School. The club's main home is the Memorial Playing Field, whilst club meetings are held at Park Farm Hotel. Today the club also plays at Little Melton School and Easton College.

The ethos behind the club is to provide competitive league football for all ages in the village from the age of seven upwards and several of the teams have been together for many years.

In 2002 the club became one of only three in Norfolk to be presented with the prestigious FA Charter Standard award to mark its excellence in youth football. This entitles the club to use the FA Nationwide Logo.

In January 2003, the club took a further step when it became the joint first in Norfolk to be awarded the National FA Community Charter standard. At the time of the award only 100 clubs nationally had achieved the same standard. The award marks the close ties that the club has with the local community. The Charter was renewed in 2007.

For a number of years the club has been looking for a piece of land within Hethersett on which to build its own ground. To date nothing has come of this but we live in hope.

At the present time the club runs youth teams at under-9, under-10, under-11, under-12, under-13, under-14, under-15 and under-16 age groups along with a girls under-15s, two ladies teams, two Sunday men's teams and a Saturday men's side.
