Kathleen Celebrates

A day of celebration was arranged at Hethersett Hall to mark the 101st birthday of its oldest resident.

Kathleen Barry moved to the home at the age of 97 in March 2006 and has continued to live a very active life.

“Kathleen is a valued and much loved resident. We just wish we knew her secret to a long and healthy life,” said Caroline Tyrrell from Hethersett Hall.

Kathleen comes from Leigh on Sea in Essex where she lived until the age of 93. She also has a close connection with London as her husband Ted, whom she married in 1933, was a bacon inspector in the London Docks. Together they had two children – Marion and Peter. Today Kathleen has five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

When her children grew up Kathleen became a keen golfer and bridge player and also loved to paint. She also undertook charity work for the Sue Ryder Trust and as a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels service.

Kathleen’s day of celebration brought her many cards, presents and flowers. She was taken out to lunch by her family and there was an afternoon family gathering at the home.
