The target proved too low, however, with Ketteringham Hall scoring 200-5
with over two overs in hand. Matt Hansell was the pick of the Hethersett

Norfolk League campaigns this week. The firsts visit Ketteringham Hall
in Division Two, the seconds are home to Aldborough Seconds in Division

and Tas Valley got their competitive season off to the best possible
start on Saturday with all three teams recording opening day Norfolk
League wins. The
firsts opened their Division Two campaign with a two wicket victory over
Ketteringham Hall. Ketteringham batted first and notched 181-8 from
their allotted 45 overs with Sprong (43) and R. Smith (42 not out)
scoring almost half of their runs. Matt Steward led the way for
Hethersett with an excellent spell of swing bowling that saw him take
4-24 from 12 overs. Richard
Ellis Jr (34) and Rob Mitchell (19) gave Hethersett and Tas Valley a
solid start and they were well backed up by Matthew Ellis (38), Nick
Burrett (42) and Matt Steward (26) as they reached their target with two
wickets and just over three overs in hand. Hethersett
and Tas Valley Seconds found the going pretty easy against Aldborough
with a comfortable nine wicket win in Division Seven. Aldborough notched
up a seemingly healthy 168 from 42 overs with R. Struges top scoring
with 53. Jon Smee with 4-23 and John Nash with 3-28 did most of the
damage. Hethersett
made short work of their target, losing just one wicket in scoring 170
in just 27.3 overs. Miles Kemp was unbeaten on 69 and Tony Wenham hit an
unbeaten 50. The only wicket to fall was that of Geoff Chapple after he
had hit a useful 35. The
thirds found themselves up against a very youthful and enthusiastic
Hales Colts team in Division 10. Batting first Hethersett and Tas Valley
hit 201-7 before declaring their innings after 37 overs. Dale Clarke top
scored with 46 and there were good contributions from Richard Parslow
(35 not out), Craig Brooke (33), Al Watts (22) and Shaun Barker (15). The
Hales innings was dominated by opener Peter Dye who hit an unbeaten 107
with none of the other batsmen getting into double figures. Pick of the
bowlers was Danny Whitworth with 3-20 from seven overs. On
Sunday, Hethersett and Tas Valley made it four wins out of four for the

scoring 41, Rob Mitchell 33 and Nick Burrett 43. They then skittled
Halvergate out for 90 with Matt Ellis taking 5-32 and Tim Shelley 3-27. Results: Hethersett

well supported by Richard Ellis Jr with 54, Nick Burrett with 47, Dave

The club has a full fixture list of league matches again this weekend. On Saturday the firsts visit Hardingham and the seconds are home to Norwich Union II. The thirds visit Norwich Union III. On Sunday Hethersett and Tas Valley are away to Saxlingham. May 14th Hethersett and Tas Valley
are top of Division Two of the Norfolk Cricket League following three
consecutive victories. On Saturday they saw off
the challenge of Hardingham with a comfortable 70-run win. Hardingham won the toss
and put Hethersett in. They soon recovered from the early loss of opener
Nick Burrett with a solid partnership between brothers Richard Ellis Jr
(31) and Matthew Ellis (72). A hard-hitting 70 from Dave Cosford that
included five sixes and five fours and a belligerent 28 from Matt Steward
saw the team to 226 all out from 44.2 overs. Hardingham soon fell
below the asking rate despite useful knocks from A. Cook (68), Michael
Breame (24) and C. Cowles (16). The remainder of the Hardingham batting
fell cheaply and they were all out for 156 after just 34.3 overs with
Assad Abbas taking 5-28 and Matt Steward 2-40. Hethersett and Tas Valley
Seconds also made it three league wins out of three with another
nailbiting finish in Division Seven of the Norfolk League. Having beaten Sprowston
by just one run the previous week, they once again had supporters on the
edge of their seats as they beat Norwich Union Seconds with the last pair
at the wicket. Hethersett won the toss
and put the opposition in. Norwich Union had solid contributions
throughout the innings and finished on 183-8 from their 45 overs with Jon
Nash taking 4-39 and Steven Beck 3-38. Hethersett lost a number
of early wickets and looked to be rocking until veteran Andy Mack came to
the crease at number nine and hammered an unbeaten 85 that included 11
fours and three sixes. Hethersett reached their target with the final
pairing of Mack and Michael Larkin at the wicket. Hethersett and Tas Valley
Thirds went down by seven wickets to Norwich Union III. Hethersett batted
first and were bowled out for 64 with Jack Smith top scoring with 24 and
Dale Clarke hitting 16. In response Norwich Union scored 66-3 in 21 overs
with Dan Whitworth the pick of the bowlers with 2-23. Hethersett and Tas
Valley’s Norfolk Sunday League Division 2 game at Saxlingham was
abandoned due to heavy rain. This weekend the Saturday teams all have Norfolk League fixtures. The firsts are home to Old Catton, the seconds visit Old Catton II and the thirds are home to Shipdham. On Sunday the team visit Worstead in the Mid Norfolk Sunday League. Hethersett

May 21st Hethersett and Tas Valley
made it four wins out of four in the Norfolk League Division Two as their
promotion push gathers momentum. The comfortably beat Old
Catton by nine wickets with a number of fine individual performances. Hethersett won the toss
and put Old Catton in. The visitors struggled to make headway and only
scored at just over three runs an over, finishing on a modest 146-7 which
was never going to be enough against a very strong home attack. The club’s leading
wicket-taker Matt Steward had a field day taking 6-23 from 12 overs, six
of which were maidens. Hethersett found their
task easy despite the early loss of Richard Ellis Jr for just three.
Brother Matthew Ellis joined Robert Mitchell at the wicket and a century
partnership saw the team home for the loss of just one wicket and with
almost 21 overs in hand. Mitchell hit an unbeaten 60 and Ellis ended 80
not out. Hethersett and Tas Valley
Seconds also made it four consecutive league wins when they beat Old
Catton Seconds by five wickets in Division Seven. Hethersett won the toss
and put Old Catton in. Again the run rate was poor thanks to some tight
bowling from the visitors. The home team scored just 139 all out from 44
overs. The wickets were spread out with John Nash taking 4-44, Steven Beck
3-24 and Jon Smee 2-22. Highlight of
Hethersett’s reply was an unbeaten 63 from Tristan Hunt that included
seven fours. The Seconds reached their target with five wickets and almost
two overs to spare. The Thirds made it a
hat-trick of Saturday wins for the club when they beat Shipdham Seconds by
three wickets. Shipdam won the toss and elected to bat with opener D. Dodd
hitting an unbreaten 101 in his team’s 169-9 from their 45 overs. Dale
Clarke and Daniel Whirworth both took 3-28. The early Hethersett
order fell cheaply before good contributions from Mike Larkin (25), Dale
Clarke (18), Shaun Barker (17) steadied the innings. Alex Reeder hit a
fine 40 not out that included five fours and two sixes and Jack Smith (18
not out) saw Hethersett home with three wickets and just under eight overs
to spare. On Sunday, Hethersett and
Tas Valley had a convincing five wicket win over Worstead in the Mid
Norfolk Sunday League Division Two. Worstead won the toss and
elected to bat and were skittled out for 112 in 31 overs. Matt Steward was
once again the destroyer in chief with 4-14 in 10 overs. He has hit a rich
vein of form with the ball with 12 wickets for just 38 runs in 24 overs
over the past week. Hethersett reached their
target for the loss of five wickets after 28.3 overs with opener Tim
Shelley scoring almost half the runs with 56. Hethersett and Tas
Valley’s midweek X1 beat New Buckenham by five runs in the first round
of the Wicklewood Shield. Hethersett batted first
and scored 123-7 from their 20 overs with opener Nick Burrett hitting 62.

seconds home to Norwich and Coltishall Wanderers Fourths and the thirds
away to Garboldisham. The club then takes off
for a two day Bank Holiday tour to Nottingham where they will play

Rain and bad
weather threatened to completely wash out Hethersett and Tas Valley’s
Bank Holiday three match tour of Nottinghamshire with play only being
possible in the final match. Games
against Kinoulton and Nottingham were abandoned, but Hethersett did see
action on the final day of the tour when they took on a very strong club
side from Papplewick and Linby and did extremely well to only go down by
23 runs. Papplewick
and Linby won the toss and batted first, scoring a healthy 207-8 from
their 40 overs with Jim Rhodes hitting 96. The wickets were shared between
the Hethersett bowlers with two each for Matt Steward, Jack Smith and Asad
Abbas. Hethersett’s
reply featured three major innings with Matt Ellis hitting 10 fours in his
70, brother Richard Ellis
hitting 23 and all-rounder Matt Steward weighing in with a quick-fire 36
that included three sixes. It wasn’t enough, however, as the visitors
fell short of their target with 184-8 against one of the strongest club
sides in the Nottingham area. Hethersett
and Tas Valley lost to Papplewick and Linby of Nottinghamshire by 23 runs
in a friendly. Papplewick

Mulbarton by eight wickets in the Bernard Matthews 20-20 Knockout Cup

Jimmy Adamson hit 108 that included 18 fours and a six. He was well

(16), Jimmy Adamson (11), Matt Ellis (18), Matt Steward (21) and Matt
Hansell (12 not out). Reepham soon fell behind the
required run rate and were all out for 67 after just 18 overs with Matt
Ellis taking 2-18, Geoff Chappell 2-9 and Matt Steward bowling two maidens
at the end of the innings and taking 1-0. A youthful Hethersett and Tas
Valley side didn’t have the same fortune when they were soundly beaten
in the quarter-finals of the Wicklewood 20-20 Shield by Hardingham II. Hardingham won the toss and
put Hethersett in and only youngster Tom Brandon Street showed any form
with 25 in a total of 52-9 with five players out for ducks. In reply
Hardingham scored 57 without loss in just nine overs. Hethersett and Tas Valley

Bowling – G. Chappell 3-0-15-0, A. Reeder 3-1-20-0, D. Whitworth 2-0-17-0, J. Smith 1-0-7-0 June 11th Hethersett and Tas
Valley continued their top of the table form to make it seven consecutive
wins in the Norfolk League Division Two with victory over
second-in-the-table Rollesby. The match was much
closer than the winning six wicket margin suggests with Hethersett only
reaching their target in the penultimate over and struggling to keep up
with a modest run chase for most of their innings. Hethersett were
without captain and all-rounder Matt Ellis and strike bowler Dave Cosford,
both unavailable. Hethersett won the toss and put the home side in on a
dull grey day in North Norfolk. The home team, who
are renowned for being able to defend modest totals, could only score 152
all out with the final wicket falling in the last over. Fast bowler Matt
Steward was the star for Hethersett, bowling straight through his 12 overs
to take 5-27. The opposition gave him the accolade of the best bowler they
have faced this season. Some of the Hethersett work in the field was
sloppy, however, as they conceded 37 extras that included 23 wides and
eight no balls – almost a quarter of Rollesby’s score. In reply, Richard
Ellis and Rob Mitchell gave Hethersett a solid start with Ellis going on
to make a watchful 43. Hethersett found it
difficult to increase the pace of their innings against some strong
bowling from Rollesby and in deteriorating light. Simon Redhead
contributed a valuable 23 before Nick Burrett and James Curson came
together to increase the scoring rate and see Hethersett home with just 10
balls remaining. Burrett ended unbeaten on 32 and Curson was 16 not out. Hethersett and Tas
Valley Seconds suffered their first league defeat of the season when they
went down to Tacolneston by 31 runs in Division Seven. Hethersett won the
toss and put Tacolneston in only to find opener D. Cooke in sparkling form
with 103 of the visitors’ total of 162-9. Steven Beck took 3-53 and
Chris Bolderstone 3-38. Hethersett struggled
in reply and only Bolderstone (25), Mike Larkin (25), Tristan Hunt (21)
and Russell Cooper (19) reached double figures as they were all out for
131 with C. Turner taking 5-23. Hethersett and Tas
Valley Thirds also went down – losing by 113 runs at Hardingham in
Division 10 to end their run of victories. Hardingham batted
first and scored 191-9 in their 45 overs with Daniel Whitworth taking
4-59. In reply Hethersett

Two with a comprehensive nine wicket victory over Ketteringham Hall that
extended their unbeaten run. Hethersett
won the toss and put Ketteringham into bat. The visitors were soon in
trouble with both openers being dismissed for ducks in the face of some
accurate bowling from Dave Cosford (3-25) and Matt Steward (2-23). A
number of Ketteringham players made it to double figures but solid bowling
from Hethersett ensured they were restricted to just 108 off 34.4 overs.
The scoreline would have been less had Hethersett held onto catches. Hethersett
made short work of their target with Matthew Ellis hammering an unbeaten
half century that included two enormous sixes and brother Richard Ellis
playing the anchor role to see the home side home for the loss of just one
wicket and with 24 overs remaining. Hethersett

celebrating one over the eight after an exciting 10 run victory over
Sprowston Seconds in the Knights Norfolk League Division Two. Their ninth consecutive league
win stretches their lead at the top following a relatively low scoring
game at Sprowston. The home team won the toss and
put Hethersett in. The visitors were soon in trouble with John Curtis
going first ball and Matt Ellis falling for just a single to leave them on
5-2 after three overs. Richard Ellis and Simon
Redhead steadied the ship with a 32 run partnership for the third wicket
before Ellis fell for 19. Tim Shelley joined Redhead in a 67 run
partnership before Redhead edged the ball behind for 46. Shelley and Matt
Steward departed shortly after as Hethersett struggled to 127-6. Nick Burrett contributed a
solid 40 before debutant Jack Smith and Asad Abbas scratched a number of
late runs and extras to take the score to 184-9. Hethersett bowled and fielded
superbly to restrict Sprowston to 67-1 from 25 overs Tim Shelley, Matt
Steward and Assad Abbas bowled economically leaving Sprowston needing 87
from their last 10 overs. It was an exciting end as
skipper Matt Ellis came forward to bowl the last over with Sprowston
needing 18. Last year against the same team Ellis had conceded three sixes
in the final over. This time he held his nerve and conceded just eight
runs to leave Hethersett winners by just 10 runs. Matt Steward was the
pick of the bowlers again with 2-28. Hethersett and Tas Valley
Seconds continued their excellent top of the table form with a comfortable
win nine wicket victory over Sprowston Thirds in Division Seven. Hethersett won the toss and
put the opposition into bat and were soon among the wickets with only D.
Watkins (22), N. Spilling (33) and W. Hall (18) providing much opposition
as Sprowston could only reach 122-9 from their 45 overs. Hethersett made short work of
their reply with openers Tim Elverson (58) and Miles Kemp (41 not out)
seeing them to the edge of victory with a partnership of 103 before
Elverson fell and it was left to Kemp and Tony Wenham to see the side home
for the loss of just one wicket and with more than 20 overs remaining. Hethersett and Tas Valley
Third’s game at Blundeston was called off. This Saturday the Firsts are
home to Hardingham with the seconds visiting Norwich Union and the Thirds
at home to Norwich Union. Hethersett and Tas Valley beat

Sunday team beat Halvergate in the Mid Norfolk Sunday League Division Two
after a nail-biting finish. Halvergate needed 10 runs off
the last over but Matt Steward managed to restrict them to seven to see
his team home by just three runs. Hethersett won the toss and
decided to bat, scoring 200 all out with just three balls of their
allotted 40 overs remaining. Pick
of the home batsmen was Richard Ellis with 77. He was well supported by an
excellent 38 from youngster Jack Smith, 20 from Nick Burrett, 13 from Matt
Ellis and 13 from Phil Walmsley. Steward took an early wicket
as Halvergate started their reply but a solid partnership between Foreman
(49) and Clarke (23) saw Halvergate take the initiative. Hethersett bowled
tidily, however, with Steward returning to take two late wickets to give
him figures of 3-42. The team held their nerve in a tense final over. Hethersett and Tas Valley beat Halvergate by three runs in the Mid Norfolk Sunday League Division Two. Hethersett and Tas Valley -

successive Norfolk League Division Two victory with a comfortable 140 run
win over Hardingham. With just eight league games remaining, Hethersett
are now odds on favourites to win the division and promotion to Division
One. Hardingham won the toss and put Hethersett into bat
and soon began to regret their decision as Richard Ellis (64) and Tim
Shelley (32) piled on the runs. When Shelley fell, skipper Matt Ellis
increased the pace even more with 72 that included eight fours and two
sixes. The side continued to score at almost a run a ball
and notched a healthy 264-9 from their 45 overs. In reply, Hardingham lost
wickets cheaply and on a regular basis with only Goodrum (49) and Edge
(22) reaching double figures as they were all out for 124 in just 33 overs.
Hethersett bowlers shared the wickets with Assad Abbas taking 3-20, Phil
Walmsley 2-32 and Dave Cosford 2-20. Hethersett and Tas Valley Seconds also continued
their top of the table form with a four wicket win over Norwich Union
Seconds. Hethersett won the toss and put Norwich Union in and
they struggled to 144-9 from their 45 overs with John Nash taking 4-29 and
Steve Beck 2-30. Hethersett had no problems reaching their target in just
34.4 overs for the loss of six wickets with major contributions from Tony
Wenham (55), Tristan Hunt (39), Chris Bolderstone (17) and Dean Parfitt
(21). Hethersett and Tas Valley Thirds made it a hat-trick
of Norfolk League wins for the club by beating Norwich Union Thirds by 58
runs in Division 10. Hethersett won the toss and elected to bat and
hammered 276 all out from 40.2 overs. Exciting young prospect Tom
Brandon-Street hit another half century and youngster Sam Smith weighted
in with 45. Star of the batting was the experienced Russell Cooper who hit
68 and most of the other batsmen made it into double figures. Norwich Union fell well short of their target with
218-8 from their 45 overs. Cooper rounded off a fine match by taking 4-16. Hethersett and Tas Valley beat Hardingham by 140 runs in Norfolk League Division 2. Hethersett

Valley are on course for an impressive promotion hat-trick in the Knights
Norfolk League. The first and second
team are both top of their divisions and looking odds on to step up. Now
the third team are beginning to mount a late promotion push. With the first
team’s game at Catton called off, the focus shifted to the promotion
aspirations of both the second and third teams. The seconds lost the
toss against Old Catton and were put into bat. Old Catton soon began to
regret that decision as Hethersett piled on the runs with the top seven
batsmen all getting into double figures and the scoring rate up at over a
run a ball. Hethersett finished on 288-5 from their 45 overs with major
contributions from opener Dave Elverson (77), Dean Parfitt (71 not out)
and Russell Cooper (42 not out). Old Catton started
strongly but then tailed away in the lower order and reached 191-8 from
their 45 overs. Wickets were spread throughout the Hethersett bowlers with
two each for Jon Smee, Russell Cooper and Dave Elverson and one for Habib
Bewley and Steven Beck. The thirds have been
improving all season and have moved up to third place in Division Ten –
just outside the promotion places, but with plenty of games to go to push
themselves into the top two ahead of either Lowestoft B or Blundeston. On Saturday they had
a tough game at Shipdham and came away with an exciting four run victory. Hethersett batted
first and scored 146 all out in 43 overs with John Curtis hitting 34 and
Jack Smith 35. It seemed a modest total but some good bowling saw Shipdham
fall to 142 all out – just five runs short of their target with Daniel
Whitworth taking 3-21. This weekend the
firsts will be looking to make it 11 consecutive league wins when they
play Cringleford Lodge at Flordon. The seconds visit Norwich and
Coltishall Wanderers and the thirds are home to Garboldisham. Hethersett and Tas
Valley’s Sunday game against Saxlingham was cancelled. This week

opponents Ashmanhaugh just too strong for them in the final of the Wensum
Midweek 20-20 Cup, going down by 28 runs. Batting second, Hethersett coped well with the
required run rate of almost nine an over but lost wickets at regular
intervals and ultimately this decided the contest. Ashmanhaugh won the toss and elected to bat and
hammered a very healthy 174-6 from their 20 overs with plenty of solid
batting throughout the team with Bernie Everett (18), Broughton (38
retired), Mollen (32 retired) and D. Inglis (30) leading the way.
Hethersett’s bowlers struggled with Phil Walmsley being the pick with
2-24. Hethersett and Tas Valley’s reply saw them keep
up with the required run rate, but losing wickets at regular intervals
despite solid knocks of 36 from Tim Shelley and 28 from skipper Matt
Ellis. In the end it was wickets that counted as
Hethersett were bowled out for 146 with three overs remaining with D.
Inglis taking 3-5. After the game Ashmanhaugh dedicated the trophy to
the memory of 18-year-old club member Lewis Pegg who tragically died in a
car crash near Hoveton in June. The
club has also announced plans to put up a commemorative scoreboard
inscribed with Lewis’ name. Ashmanhaugh beat Hethersett and Tas Valley by 28

towards the Knights Norfolk League Division Two title with a comprehensive
219 run victory over bottom club Cringleford Lodge. Hethersett won the toss and decided to bat and it
soon proved a good decision with the top five making hay while the summer
sun shone at last. The Ellis brothers were in top form with Richard
hitting an unbeaten 87 and the more belligerent Matt smashing 74 that
included 13 fours. When Matt fell it brought in big hitting Simon Redhead
who crashed eight fours and four sixes in an innings of 60 as Hethersett
continued to score at more than a run a ball. Nick Burrett weighed in at the end of the innings
with a quickfire 33 not out as the team reached a massive 282-3 from their
45 overs. Hethersett’s superiority was then transferred to
the bowling department where Asian spin king Asad Abbas removed four of
the top five batsmen and went on to take 5-21 from 10 overs. Dave Cosford
came on towards the end of the innings to mop up the tail with 2-5 as
Cringleford capitulated to 63 all out after just 26.3 overs. With 11 consecutive victories and three no results
and with just four league matches to play, Hethersett are odds on to win
the division and gain promotion. Hethersett and Tas Valley Seconds also had a
comfortable win to strengthen their position at the top of the Norfolk
League Division Seven. They beat Norwich and Coltishall Wanderers IV by 126
runs. Hethersett batted first and openers Tim Elverson (28) and Miles Kemp
(31) got them off to a good start before a whirlwind unbeaten century from
Tony Wenham saw the team up their scoring rate to more than a run a ball.
Wenham hit 10 fours and four sixes in 101 to lead his side to 274-7 from
their 45 overs. He was well supported by
the other batsmen with Dean Parfitt scoring 31 and all the others
getting into double figures. Hethersett and Tas Valley III also continued their
promotion push with an exciting one wicket victory over Garboldisham. Garboldisham won the toss and elected to bat and
struggled to 124 all out after 33.1 overs with Alex Reeder taking 4-45,
Dale Clarke 2-20, Shaun Barker 2-20 and Daniel Whitworth 2-32. The Hethersett reply was built on solid contributions
from Jack Smith (28), Barker (20) and Joe Brett (26) as they edged towards
the relatively modest total in a low scoring game. Wickets tumbled,
however, and it was left to the last wicket pairing of Al Watts and Daniel
Whitworth to see them home to 125-9 from 31.3 overs. Hethersett and Tas Valley beat Cringleford Lodge

William Reeves (12). Worstead stayed up with the run rate and 92 from
opener C. Beeden helped them to reach their target with 208-4 with 4.2

Bowling
Hethersett and Tas
Valley lost their unbeaten Norfolk League Division Two record when they
were pipped at the post by fellow promotion hopefuls Rollesby in a
dramatic last over finish. It was a
disappointing league Saturday for the club with the seconds also losing
– by eight runs to Tacolneston - and the thirds seeing their promotion
chances severely hit by defeat at the hands of Hardingham II. The firsts are still
on target to win the league despite Saturday’s defeat at the hands of
second placed Rollesby in a high scoring match on a flat track at Flordon. Hethersett won the
toss and elected to bat. It soon became apparent that they would need a
score of over 200 to put pressure on Rollesby. With openers Adamson and
Richard Ellis falling cheaply it looked as if this might be a hopeful
target. Tim Shelley and Matt
Ellis then began to build a solid if cautious partnership with Ellis more
subdued than in previous weeks. When Shelley fell for 30 to an excellent
catch, the Hethersett innings began to falter and runs dried up
dramatically. Some late attacking
by Nick Burrett (32) and Dave Hobart (30) saw the home team to 210-8 from
their 45 overs with Matt Ellis again top scoring with 76. Rollesby lost two
quick wickets but paced themselves well throughout the innings to stay
within striking distance. The usually reliable Hethersett bowlers
struggled to cut the Rollesby run rate down and the visitors reached their
target with four balls remaining and three wickets in hand. The team still need
just 13 points from their two remaining fixtures to take the Division Two
title. They round off their campaign with a visit to Shipdham this
Saturday and then a home game against Diss A on 25th August. Hethersett and Tas
Valley Seconds stay on top of Division Seven despite suffering an eight
run defeat at the hands of Tacolneston. Hethersett won the
toss and put Tacolneston into bat. C. Cook led the way with 80 in a total
of 187-5 from their 45 overs. Geoff Chappell was the most successful
Hethersett bowler with 2-23. In response,
Hethersett could only make 179-9 despite a half century from Tristan Hunt
and good knocks from Rob Mitchell (34) and Steve Beck (36). The team’s final
two league matches are home to Felthorpe this week and away at Bungay A on
25th August. The third team’s
chances of gaining promotion from Division 10 took a battering when they
lost to Hardingham Seconds by 12 runs. Hardingham batted
first and openers Plunkett (57) and Sheehan (48) gave them an excellent
start on their way to 214-9 from their 45 overs. Alex Reeder with 3-61 was
the pick of the Hethersett bowlers. In reply Hethersett
and Tas Valley lost wickets cheaply until Tom Brandon Street (26) and Jack
Smith (64) stopped the rot. A late rally from Alex Reeder (27 not out)
failed to get Hethersett up to the required run rate as they finished on
202-9. Hethersett and Tas

course for a league and cup double after reaching the final of the Broke
Cup with an impressive 10 wicket victory over Terrington St Clement in the
semi-finals. A brilliant century from Tim Shelley in an unbeaten
first wicket partnership of 173 with Richard Ellis saw Hethersett reach
their required total with almost 10 overs remaining. Terrington won the toss and elected to bat and
reached 170-5 from their 40 overs with Vic Young remaining unbeaten on 92.
Tony Wenham took 2-29. In reply, Richard Ellis played the anchor role with
an unbeaten 43 as Shelley hammered 121 not out to lead his side to 173-0
from just 30.1 overs. This Sunday Hethersett return to league action with a
visit to Dereham in the Mid Norfolk Sunday League Division Two with
promotion still very much a possibility. Hethersett and Tas Valley beat Terrington St Clement

Valley are celebrating a Norfolk League championship and a promotion
double. The first team made
sure of the Division Two title with a nailbiting win at Shipdham and the
second team ensured promotion from Division Seven with a comfortable five
wicket victory at home to Felthorpe. The firsts came up
against a strong Shipdham side and for the third consecutive week their
match went to the last over. With Shipdham needing seven runs for victory,
skipper Matt Ellis kept his nerve to concede just five
runs as Shipdham ended on 197-4 to give Hethersett an unassailable
lead at the top of the division with just a home game against Diss Seconds
to come this weekend. Hethersett batted
first and, for the second week running, scored fewer runs than they would
have liked. The Ellis brothers were once again in sparkling form with
Richard Ellis Junior hitting and unbeaten 75 and brother Matt continuing
his run machine exploits with 74. Dave Cosford weighed in with an unbeaten
20 at the end of the innings but the side were all out for 199. Thankfully it proved
just sufficient as tight bowling by Cosford, Matt Ellis and the remainder
of the team restricted Shipdham to 197-4 and the title was on its way to
Hethersett. The seconds won the
toss against Felthorpe and put the opposition in knowing that victory
would give them promotion and keep their own title hopes alive. Felthorpe struggled
to 121-9 from their 45 overs with only three batsmen making it into double
figures. John Nash took 3-21 and Russell Cooper 3-41. Hethersett made short
work of reaching their target in just 28.5 overs for the loss of five
wickets. There were solid contributions from Dave Elverson (32), Tristan
Hunt (18) and Dean Parfitt (21) before Steve Beck (13 not out) and
youngster Jack Smith (20 not out) came together to guide the team to
victory and promotion. A win in the second
team’s final match of the season at Bungay A will see them take the
Division Seven title and jump two divisions to compete in Division Five
next season. Hethersett and Tas
Valley Thirds had a disappointing 116 run deafeat at the hands of
Lowestoft Thirds. Lowestoft batted first and hit 213-8 with Stewart Larter
unbeaten on 91. Alex Reeder was the pick of the Hethersett bowlers with
3-32. In reply Hethersett were bowled out for 97 in 32.3 overs with
Richard Ellis Senior top scoring with 30. This Saturday the thirds round off their league season with a home game against North Elmham. Hethersett and Tas Valley beat Shipdham by two runs in the Norfolk League Division 2 Hethersett

and Tas Valley are double Norfolk League champions. The first
team has comfortably won Division Two, whilst the Seconds had a nailbiting
final game of the season before learning that they have been crowned
champions of Division Seven. The firsts
rounded off their season with a match against a Diss Seconds’ team
augmented and strengthened by a number of first team players. The
opposition needed victory to stand any chance of avoiding relegation,
whilst Hethersett had the luxury of already having won the title. Hethersett
lost the toss and were put into bat in what turned out to be a low scoring
affair on a slow wicket at Flordon. Hethersett
struggled from the start, losing opener Nick Burrett for a duck. A number
of other batsmen fell cheaply with the mainstays of the innings being 35
from run machine Matt Ellis, 27 from hard-hitting Matt Steward and 17 from
Phil Walmsley late in the innings. Hethersett
were all out for 140 in 42.1 overs and this scarcely looked likely to be
enough against a strong Diss batting line-up. The
Hethersett bowlers had other ideas, however, and were in top form with
Dave Cosford producing his best display of the season to take 5-28. He was
well supported by leg spinner Asad Abbas with 3-27 as Diss collapsed to
104 all out to give Hethersett victory by 36 runs. The seconds
were well beaten at Bungay, but still managed to take the points necessary
to pip their opponents for top spot in Division Seven by 0.21 points.
Under the accelerated promotion scheme the seconds now move up to Division
Five. Hethersett
batted first and were skittled out for just 62 with no batsman reaching
double figures. Bungay found little dofficulty in reaching their target
for the loss of just two wickets. Hethersett
and Tas Valley Thirds concluded their most successful season to date with
a six run victory over North Elmham to give them fourth place in Division
10. With a number of excellent young players in the side, the future looks
bright for the third team. They lost
the toss and were put into bat by North Elmham with Sam Smith hitting 26,
Jack Smith 19, Al Watts 22 and Greg Lochhead 29 in a score of 132 all out
in 28.3 overs. North Elmham
replied with just 126 in 30 overs with Dale Clarke taking 3-34 and Alex
Reeder 3-26. Hethersett and Tas Valley beat
