Gary Achieves His Ambition

Hethersett parish councillor Gary Wyatt (pictured above) has just completed his first ever half marathon – at the age of 60.

Gary completed the Norwich Half Marathon in a credible 2 hours 15 minutes and has vowed to take part in more events.

“It was my first formal half marathon but I do an eight to 10 mile run every week, so I just put in a few extra runs in the weeks leading up to the event. I intend continuing with my weekly running and I would certainly do another half marathon “ Gary said.

He admits that the primary reason for running was “personal satisfaction” but he also raised money from sponsorship which will be split between the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and the Big C Appeal.

Gary said that he had felt inspired at the start of the event when he heard the Chariots of Fire theme.

“It was very wet, muddy and cold but I felt quite excited particularly when the Chariots of Fire theme was played at the start,” he added.

Gary was co-opted to Hethersett Parish Council earlier this year.
