Hotties Hot Up For Charity

By Hethersett Surgery Manager Edwina Wilson

Many, many thanks to all the people that donated to the Hethersett Hotties Race for Life 2012. We have raised approximately £500 (money is still coming in). Eight ladies from the surgery took part – Edwina (surgery manager), Vicky (dispenser), Katrina (clinical summariser) Karen, Tracey, Judy and Sallyanne (reception team) and Sallyanne’s daughter, Megan.

Unfortunately, Edwina had sprained her ankle training for the Race for Life and was unable to run or walk the 5km. The team, however, had other ideas – “let’s borrow a wheelchair and push her around!” came the cry. Dr Press agreed and a wheelchair was duly borrowed from the surgery.

It was a fine, if cloudy, day. The atmosphere was jubilant as 3,000 women and their supporters descended on the Norwich Showground. We all set off at a reasonable pace, the team taking turns to push the wheelchair. Tracey and Karen were faster than the rest of us and were soon ahead and Sallyanne and Megan got lost in the crowd behind. No matter we were all there taking part and doing our bit.

After an hour we crossed the finishing line and collected our medals – it was a great and worthwhile experience. Let’s do it again next year!!

Once again – many thanks to all who took part and, even greater, thanks to those that donated to such a wonderful cause - the fight against cancer.
