Gravy salts, Be-Ro Cook Books, Cakeoma, a
double earthenware boiler for porridge and a Norfolk Cookbook from
1913 helped to role back the culinary years at Hethersett Library. Members of the public were given a “taste of the
past” at a special “Remember When” afternoon that took a nostalgic
trip through the world of food and drink. There was a food themed display of history books and
staff from the Gressenhall Museum of Norfolk Life were on hand to prompt
the memories of spam, rationing and stone ovens. Those present discussed the way bread was cut in
different parts of the country after the Second World War and
reminiscences were jotted down to be added to the village historical
archive. It was the latest in a series of events organised by
Norfolk County Councils at libraries throughout Norfolk.
