Norfolk League Division One - Home to Norwich B A fine team
performance saw Hethersett and Tas Valley make it six wins out of six and
took them back to the top of the Norfolk League Division One with closest
rivals Old Buckenham tying with Acle A. Hethersett notched
a comfortable 67 run victory over Norwich Thirds and never looked in
danger of losing after being put into bat by their opponents. Indeed
Norwich’s only chance of salvaging something from the game came in the
shape of intermittent rain which threatened at one point to bring the game
to an early end. Towards the end
the sun shone as Hethersett took another massive step forward. Openers
Richard Ellis and Carl Puttock got them off to a fine start with a half
century partnership before Ellis was bowled for 32. Matthew Ellis (24) and
Simon Redhead (59 not out) supported Puttock well as he looked certain to
reach a century only to top edge a ball and fall for 86. Dave Cosford (15)
and Nick Burrett (17) produced a late flourish as Hethersett reached 255-5
from their 45 overs. Opening bowlers
Matt Steward and Dave Cosford were economical as Norwich began to fall
further and further behind the clock. The visitors never looked like
achieving their target with Hethersett having the luxury of using nine
bowlers with spinner Asad Abbas again the most successful with 3-42.
Norwich finished on 188-9. Hethersett and Tas
Valley Thirds were beaten by seven wickets in their local Division 10
derby at home to Great Melton Fourths. Hethersett scored a respectable
183-9 with Sam Smith hitting 52. Melton made light work of their target,
hitting 184-3 in 34.5 overs. Hethersett and Tas Valley beat Norwich III by 67
runs in Norfolk League Division One Hethersett and Tas Valley
