More Fun From Players - June 2008
The essence of
performances from Hethersett Players is fun and entertainment. This was once again
illustrated with their latest production – two one act plays in Hethersett
Village Hall with the onus very much on comedy. Over His Dead Body by
Jack Booth and Parentcraft by Stephen Smith both required solid comedy timing
and that’s exactly what the players provided over a two night run. Over His Dead Body
surrounds an unexpected and fatal conclusion to a one night stand when the
identity of the dead body is established. The play introduced a number of new
members to the players and they coped well with a difficult piece. Neville
Greenhalgh may have given one of his best comedy performances as the body,
lopping and lolling about in a role that he obviously can have had no real
life experience of. In addition Neville directed the play and then came to
life again to act as compere for the evening. Jane Cole as Deborah
Paige, the other half of the one-nighter, and Becky Sprunt as Sharon
inter-acted well with Lloyd Parfitt bringing his usual pantomime feel to the
role of journalist Chris. If the first play was
about life extinct, the second provided a study of life not yet achieved.
Parentcraft by Stephen Smith had some sharp lines and observations. Four
expectant mothers (one of whom is not what she seems) and one expectant father
find themselves coming together for their first parentcraft class. The comedy here is
more subtle and star of the show was director Gareth Evans who once again
proved himself an actor of consummate ability. He was well supported by the
cast of Vicki Gale as Sharon, Amy Cuenca as Susan, Pippa Sinons as Siobhan and
Sarah Wyatt as Lesley. Just to prove it was
summer, despite the recent bad weather, the group served strawberries and
cream during the interval. Their next production
will be a Hollywood Variety Evening with fish and chip supper on November 14th
and 15th. The players are always looking for new members either
onstage or to work in a backstage capacity. Anybody interested in joining
should contact Sarah Wright on 01603 810593 or e-mail players2004@hethersettplayers.co.uk The group also has its
own web site at www.hethersettplayers.co.uk
