Poppy Appeal 2009 A total of £2105 has been donated to the Royal British Legion following house to house collections and static point collections at businesses, schools, shops and other premises in the Hethersett and Little Melton areas. This year’s Poppy Appeal saw an increase in the number of house to house collectors and also the number of static collection spots. “Last year £1530 was donated to the charity so to have an increase of around a third again to £2105 is an excellent outcome for The Legion. Last year nearly £31million was donated to The Legion nationally so if this increase is replicated across the country the amount donated this year could be around £40million,” said area co-ordinator Jerry Wright. “On behalf of The Legion I would like to thank the individuals who volunteered to complete house to house collections and to the businesses, schools, shops and other premises who agreed that poppies and collecting boxes could be left with them,” Mr Wright added. More house to house volunteers are still needed for the 2010 appeal. Anybody interested in volunteering or receiving more information can contact Jerry Wright on 01603 810212
