Prince Charles was sent a copy of the “Wild About
Hethersett” book which sold out within a week of publication and which is
now going to a reprint. He received a copy of the book after meeting

Back came a swift reply from Clarence House: “His Royal
Highness was thrilled to learn about your village of Hethersett and how you
have been recording the seasonal changes and the types of wildlife over a
year. It is a very informative book and clearly shows what an amazing
community you have at Hethersett in which you have all worked together to
produce such a wealth of information in one source, “ the letter says.
The book was primarily put together by Hethersett
environmentalist Dr Anne Edwards with much of the funding coming from a
bequest from former Hethersett Parish Council Chairman and member of the
Hethersett Environmental Action Team George Beckford who died two years ago.
Dr Edwards admits that she was surprised and delighted that the book sold out
so quickly. With financial support from Waitrose it is hoped to have another
100 copies printed in the near future.
The comments from Prince Charles come just weeks after
David Cameron referred to Hethersett as “Big Society in action” and
praised local residents for “really making a difference to the community.”
Chairman of the Village Olympic Committee and parish
councillor Shane Hull attended an Olympic 2012 celebration reception held by
the Prime Minister in Downing Street where he presented David Cameron with a
copy of two publications – “Wild About Hethersett” and “The Book of
Hethersett.” He also passed out flyers for Hethersett’s Olympic themed
Open Weekend in June to a variety of people including Princess Anne, Lord Coe,
Tessa Jowell MP and athlete Denise Lewis.
