Reparation by Bea Ewart In memory of L/Cpl George Henry Grant, killed in action, Ginchy, The Somme, France 15th September, 1916.
11th November 1995 Today on Armistice Day, I have become the Grandmother of a boy in France.
My Grandfather died there long ago, in the field at Ginchy. Now, as on so many other days, I remember the sacrifice he made.
Today, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, I cannot but feel that this little fellow is a gift, a life returned to us: a reparation.
Rest in peace, George Henry. Welcome Alexander Arthur, may such a sacrifice never be yours.
