Record Entry for Poster Competition An annual schools' road safety poster competition
has attracted a record number of entries this year. Five schools have taken part in the competition
organised by Hethersett and the Meltons Road Safety Committee. For the first time all four Hethersett schools –
Woodside First, Hethersett Middle, Hethersett High and Hethersett Old
Hall School – took part and they were joined by Little Melton School. Over 200 colourful posters were submitted to the
judging panel – all with a road safety theme. They ranged from the
simplicity of reception classes to the more advanced style of youngsters
from the high school who incorporated graphs and data in their messages. “In the past we have always had a theme for the
competition but this year for the first time we allowed teachers to
chose their own subjects,” said member of the judging panel and
Hethersett Parish Councillor Fred Watkins. The result was numerous themes from children’s
safety to drink-driving and speeding to the illegal use of mobile phones
whilst driving. The committee agreed that the standard this year
had been very high. The committee is planning to fit in a number of
presentations at the various schools before the end of the current term
when the winners will be announced. The winning posters will then go on display in
Hethersett Library.
