Hethersett Cricket Club Success Hethersett and Tas
Valley Cricket Club will be stepping into the unknown next season with two
teams in the newly expanded Norfolk Alliance. The club’s annual
meeting heard that the first team will be playing in Division Three after
winning promotion from the Norfolk League first division, with the seconds
playing in the newly formed Division Six. The third team will continue playing
in the Norfolk League. Chairman Tony Smith
reported on the “most successful season in the club’s history” and
looked to a financially sound future. A new social committee was set-up to
organise fund-raising events and Sean Barker was appointed to the new position
of Director of Youth Cricket. Next season the club will be running youth teams
at Under-11, Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 levels. It was also reported that
the two pitches at Flordon are in their best ever condition. The club has also been
invited to take part in the prestigious Carter Cup Knockout tournament and
have been drawn at home to Bradfield in the first round. “It is an honour
for us to be invited to take part and says much for the work put in to
establish the club in Norfolk cricket,” said club secretary Richard Ellis. Officers elected at
the meeting were: President, Duncan Pigg; Vice-President, Harold Kerslake;
Chairman, Tony Smith; Vice-Chairman, David Johnson; Secretary, Richard Ellis;
Fixtures and Results Secretary, Richard Ellis; Selection Secretary, Matt
Ellis; Treasurer, Sue Ellis; First Team Captain, Matt Ellis; Second Team
Captain, Dave Austin; Third Team Captain, Duncan Shearwood; Director of Youth
Team Cricket, Sean Barker; Groundsmen, Richard Ellis, Richard Ellis snr, Assad
Abbas, Lee King; Bar Manager, Al Watts. The club starts nets
for the coming season early in the new year. Sessions for senior players only
will take place at Easton College on 11th and 18th
January, 1st and 22nd February and 1st March.
Nets for seniors and juniors combined will take place on 22nd and 29th
March and 5th April. All sessions take place between 5 p.m and 6.30
p.m. New players are
