Hethersett and Tas Valley Cricket Club Friendly Matches 2008 April 14th, 2008 Hethersett and Tas Valley’s
preparations for the new season suffered a blow on Sunday when a torrential
downpour forced the abandonment of their friendly against Ketteringham Hall. Hethersett were able to get
some much needed batting practice before the rains came, scoring 184-7 in 35
overs with solid knocks from Richard Ellis (13), youngster Tom Brandon Street
(32), Matthew Ellis (49), Jack Smith (15), Ross Jones (22) and Nick Burrett
(24). Ketteringham Hall were prevented from beginning their reply by the
weather. Off the field preparations
for the new season have been going well with the sprucing up of the club’s
ground at Flordon. The pavilion has been painted and 20 volunteers helped to
install new sightscreens and tidy the pitch up. The club is also busy raising
funds for a new electronic scoreboard. This season Hethersett and
Tas Valley will be competing in Divisions One, Five and Ten of the Norfolk
League and also the Mid Norfolk Sunday League Division One, along with
numerous cup competitions. The club will also be running junior sides at
Under-11, Under-13 and Under-16 levels. Hethersett and Tas
Valley v Ketteringham Hall – match abandoned Hethersett and Tas Valley
April 21st, 2008 Hethersett and Tas Valley Cricket Club continued their preparations for the new season with a mixed bag of results. On Sunday they entertained Caister in a pre-season friendly and avenged last season’s disappointing Broke Cup Final defeat with an impressive 126 run victory. Richard Ellis lost the toss on a damp afternoon and was asked to bat in a match reduced to 35 overs per side. Openers Rob Mitchell and 16-year-old Tom Brandon-Street got Tas off to a fine start with an opening partnership of 132 from 20 overs. Both retired after reaching half centuries. The middle order added more quick runs with Nick Burrett’s unbeaten 48 the highlight. Caister’s reply never really got going with debutant Austin and the nagging Cooper bowling line and length and restricting Caister to only 46 from 14 overs. Abbas (4-27), Barker (1-7), King (1-7) then got amongst the wickets as Caister attempted to increase the scoring rate. With the match virtually won skipper Ellis used all 10 players to bowl and Caister finished their innings on 113-9. The previous day Hethersett and Tas Valley went down to Chapelfield by eight wickets. Hethersett batted first and scored 164-8 in 40 overs with Tim Couche top scoring with 46. Chapelfield replied with 166-2 in just 29.3 overs. Hethersett and Tas Valley beat Caister by 126 runs in a friendly. Hethersett -

becoming an annual tradition for Hethersett and Tas Valley Cricket
Club’s May tour of Nottinghamshire to end in a wash out. There was very
little difference this year with games against Hucknall and Colston
Bassett being wiped out by rain. The club did
manage one game, however, with a 15 run victory over Kinoulton. Hethersett
won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 225-7 from their 40 overs with
Simon Redhead retiring unbeaten on 52 and also good contributions from
Robert Mitchell (33), Richard Ellis (35) and Jimmy Adamson (24). Kinoulton ended
short of their target on 210-9 with Asad Abbas taking 5-88 from a marathon
17 over spell Hethersett and Tas Valley beat Kinoulton of
Nottinghamshire by 15 runs in a tour match. Hethersett and Tas Valley –
