Hethersett and Tas
Valley’s hopes of a league and cup treble were destroyed on Sunday when
they lost to Hayley East Anglia by two wickets in the Norfolk Junior
Knockout Cup Final. Once again dropped
catches proved costly for Hethersett after they had clawed their way back
into contention in an exciting final at Sprowston. Hethersett won the
toss and elected to bat with Tim Shelley (41), Matt Ellis (33) and Nick
Burrett (23) leading the way to a total of 142-6 from their 16 eight ball
overs. Hethersett were fast out of the blocks but slowed down towards the
end of their innings. Hayley seemed well
up with the run rate but began to lose wickets and, with two overs
remaining, had eight batsman back in the pavilion. Hethersett sensed the
chance of victory but spilled two vital catches that could have changed
the outcome of the game. Their opponents somehow negotiated themselves to
victory with 11 balls remaining. Hethersett were
left to rue a missed opportunity but also to celebrate a season that has
seen them win Division One of the Norfolk League and take the Wensum 20-20
Cup. The club will be
holding its annual fireworks and presentation evening at Flordon on 1st
November. The club’s annual meeting will be held on 20th
November. Hethersett and Tas Valley lost to Hayley East Anglia by two wickets in the final of the Norfolk Junior Knockout Cup. Hethersett and Tas Valley
