Work at Thickthorn

Work is due to start shortly on improvements to Thickthorn Roundabout and these will inevitably cause delays.

Overnight work to restore the surface of the carriageway and its approaches, repaint white lines and make improvements to navigation of the roundabout will start on Monday 10th February for 18 week nights (8pm to 6am), weather permitting. This work is due to be complete by 6 a.m on 6th March

While work takes place, short sections of the roundabout and its approaches will be worked on each night and a 50mph speed limit will be in place, with a mixture of single lane closures and full closures with a signed diversion route as required (summarised below).

Phase 1 (first 3 nights)

Thickthorn roundabout inner ring circulatory carriageway lane closure.

Phase 2 (2 nights)

A11 northbound carriageway closure from B1135 Tuttles Lane Interchange with a diversion route along the B1172 Norwich Common (northbound) to Thickthorn Roundabout.

Closure of the B1172 Norwich Common (southbound) with a diversion route south on the A11 to B1135 Tuttles Lane Interchange where vehicles can access the A11.

Phase 3 (2 nights)

A47 westbound on slip closure with a diversion route north on the A11 Newmarket Road where vehicles will be directed west via Round House Way, Colney Lane and Watton Road to join the A47 at Watton Road Interchange.

B1172 closure (northbound) with a diversion route south on the B1172 Norwich Common to the B1135 Tuttles Lane Interchange where vehicles can access Thickthorn Roundabout via the A11 northbound.

Phase 4 (4 nights)

A47 eastbound off slip closure with a diversion route on the A47 eastbound to A140 Ipswich Road Interchange to return on the A47 westbound to access Thickthorn Roundabout and continue their journey.

Closure of the A11 Newmarket Road northbound with a diversion route along the A47 westbound carriageway to Watton Road Interchange where vehicles will be directed east along Watton Road, Colney Lane and Round House Way to rejoin the A11 at the A11 Newmarket Road Roundabout.

Phase 5 (3 nights)

A47 eastbound on slip closure with a diversion route along the A47 westbound carriageway to Watton Road Interchange where vehicles will be able to join the A47 eastbound carriageway.

A11 Newmarket Road southbound closure with a diversion route from A11 Newmarket Road Roundabout where vehicles will be directed westbound along Round House Way, Colney Lane and Watton Road to Watton Road Interchange and along the A47 eastbound carriageway to access Thickthorn Roundabout via the A47 eastbound off slip.

Phase 6 (2 nights)

 A11 southbound closure with a diversion route along the B1172 Norwich Common (southbound) to join the A11 at B1135 Tuttles Lane Interchange.

A47 westbound off slip closure with a diversion route along the A47 westbound carriageway to Watton Road Interchange where vehicles will be directed along the A47 eastbound carriageway to access Thickthorn Roundabout via the A47 eastbound slip off.

Return to Phase 1 traffic management for 1 night (last night of works).
