Speedy Willow - July 2012

Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt, the fastest man on earth, made an unexpected visit to Hethersett High School.

The Jamaican sprinter was obviously too busy preparing for the Olympics to make a personal appearance but his willow resemblance has been in the grounds of the school. The wooden Usain was all part of a display with an Olympic theme put together mainly by the school’s Year 10 GCSE art students following a one day workshop with Norfolk artist Maggie Campbell.

Students chose the theme and five poses connected with the Olympics. They then modelled the poses before constructing the willow figures – one of which was the Olympic champion and world record holder. Other poses included an archer, basketball player, gymnast and torch bearer.
