The newly formed Hethersett Velo Club continues to go
from strength to strength with over 70 riders of all ages and abilities
regularly taking part in club runs.
The club was the brainchild of keen Hethersett rider
Martin “Bart” Anderton and colleague Iain Nichols and is backed by the
hugely successful Hethersett and Melton’s Sports Association.
Much of the club’s success has been its inclusivity:
“We have a fantastic group of cycling enthusiasts
and the idea behind what we do is to provide cycling in a friendly and
safe environment for all standards. Nobody gets left behind. We hope to
help build people’s confidence to ride in a group. It’s also a great
way to workout and improve personal fitness” Martin Anderton said.
The club has a number of weekly rides including a 30
to 35 mile Sunday morning ride and others on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
evenings. There is also a wide variety of memberships available.
“The Velo club is a perfect example of what we are
trying to create in sporting Hethersett and is just part of our Big
Society ethos,” said chair of Hethersett and the Meltons Sports
Association Peter Steward. Over the past few months the village has also
seen groups start in croquet, rounders and tennis with petanque on the
agenda for the near future.
