What's on in Hethersett

If you would like to have your village  event advertised on this page free of charge, just send details by e-mail by clicking here.  Reports on many of these events will appear on this site.

Parish clerk Ian Weetman is available in the Council Office - upstairs in the Village Hall on Mondays and Thursdays between 10 a.m and noon. Ian can be contacted during the week on 810915.

We are also happy to include events from Little and Great Melton.

Mondays - Coffee stop at Hethersett Methodist Church 10 - noon.

Mondays - Hethersett Pensioners Association for those aged over 55 and retired meet in the Methodist Church Hall every second Monday of the month starting at 2 p.m.. For more information contact Pam on 813653 or Sheila on 811122.

First Monday of Each Month  -  Book Group meets at Hethersett Library from 2 to 3 p.m to share thoughts on latest books, magazines or any thing else to do with the literary world.

Tuesdays - Hethersett Hawks Cycle Speedway Club Night

Tuesdays (From 31st January 2012) - Zumba Dance Classes. Hethersett Village Hall 7-8 p.m. £5 per session. Discount cards available.

Wednesdays - Hethersett Jubilee Youth Club for youngsters. From 6 to 8 p.m for School Years 5 and 6 and from 7 to 9 p.m for Years 7 to 9. There is also an out of school club on Monday, Tuesdays and Fridays from 3.30 to 5.30 p.m. For more information contact Gillian Saunders on 01953 607566.

Thursdays - Hethersett Aspiring Artists group meets in Hethersett Village Hall, 2-4 p.m.

Thursdays - Tai chi class from 7.30 until 8.30 p.m in Hethersett Jubilee Youth Club. Beginners welcome.

Saturdays - Shoppers Coffee at Hethersett Methodist Church - 10 to noon.

Saturdays -  Socatots is a pre-school activity for youngsters from six months to five years which has been running sessions on Saturday mornings at Hethersett Junior School. February 2nd Britain in Conflict - Napoleon to Kaiser Bill - Ten week course organised by the Hethersett branch of the Workers' Educational Association. Hethersett High School, 7.30 p.m. Week three of ten.

February 4th Volunteers from the Wymondham and Attleborough Talking Newspaper will be visiting Hethersett Library on Saturday 4th February to raise awareness of the free audio news and information service for visually impaired people. Norfolk Library Services will also be highlighting the facilities available to blind and partially sighted library users. The visit will take place between 10 a.m and midday.

February 5th - Hethersett Hawks Cycle Speedway Club's annual general meeting in the upstairs room at Hethersett Methodist Church from 2 p.m.

February 15th - Hethersett Library celebrates “one village, one library, one book and one day.” Hethersett Library is on a mission to see how many members of the local community they can encourage to read and share the same book at the same time. The book chosen is the bestseller One Day by David Nicholls. Launch of idea from 10 a.m to 1 p.m.

February 15th - Public screening of film Cool Runniings at Hethersett High School as part of the South Norfolk True Film Festival 2012 programme featuring true stories of British and international talent and achievement in recognition of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. The film is inspired by the true story of the first Jamaican Olympic bobsled team. Tickets are £3, bookings can be made on 01603 810924

March 2nd - Hethersett Old Hall School taster day for Year Six pupils joining the senior department in September when girls will have the opportunity to experience science in the laboratories, cooking in the home economics room, drama on stage, art in the studios and outdoor activities. Parents will also be able to tour the school in the afternoon. Day runs from 9.30 a.m until 3.30 p.m.

March 3rd - Women's World Day of Prayer - “Let Justice Prevail” will be the subject for this year’s Women’s World Day of Prayer. Hethersett’s special service will take place in St Remigius Parish Church at 10 a.m  All welcome (the service is not just for women).  Refreshments will be served at the end.

June 22nd-24th - St Remigius Church Flower Festival. Celebration of the 350 years of the Book of Common Prayer, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics coming to the UK and the official Olympic torch coming to Hethersett.

July 5th - Visit to Hethersett of the official 2012 London Olympic torch. More details as they become available.

July 6th - Hethersett summer ball in the grounds of Hethersett Old Hall School. The event will include a buffet, bar, raffle and dancing to live music. July 15th - Norfolk Village Games Finals

July 31st - Hethersett Hawks Cycle Speedway Club hosts Great Britain v Poland international at Junior, ladies and senior levels.
